Organic Building Materials
The entire building has been covered with healthy layers of Magnesium Oxide (MgO*). These revolutionary MgO formulas offer many benefits such as extreme heat resistance and reflection which ensures maximum natural cooling and breathability in all the interior living areas. In addition, the coating is also highly resistant to mold and mildew, and is highly flame retardant; every single cedar shingle on the roof was dipped into a MgO formula before installation in order to provide maximum cooling and fire protection benefits to the entire building. ![]() Through years of research and development, which includes testing the technology by living in buildings using the different MgO formulas and installation techniques, the builder has found that the MgO cement formulas being used here with local coral sand and mineral rock, have been shown to be:

The first comment people usually make when walking into Aloha Aina is that it feels wonderful inside. This magical experience is almost the exact opposite response that people normally have for most buildings in Hawaii. The goal of the builder was to create the same feelings inside living areas that matched the celestial feelings of Kauai's beaches.
Great care has been taken to use as many natural and organic elements, often from local soil whenever possible. It is the belief of the builder that every building material which is placed in the structure creates an influence upon one's mind, body, and environment. Therefor, Aloha Aina has incorporated the use of local coral sand, soil, and rock to ensure an ecological connection between the individual, the building, and the island. *MgO is completely safe and is reported to have the following physiological benefits if taken orally: MgO provides the body with an adequate suppy of magnesium which is an essential mineral that is necessary for proper functioning of the heart, the muscular skeletal system, the nervous system, and the digestive tract. The builder jokes that people will be living in an edible building. |
